A sophisticated approach to the region’s must-see sights, soft adventures, enigmatic back streets & beach bliss Simply put – this...
Contemporary Cambodia is often overlooked and overshadowed by its neighbors, but despite that it is an unsung hero of Southeast Asia. A country both blessed by and cursed with its past, Cambodia embodies the future of Asia with its youthful promise and entrepreneurial energy.
Cambodia features hard living, welcoming and fun people, a mesmerizing topography and the famous ruins of Angkor – more than an item on a bucket list, but truly something that needs to be experienced, understood and dwelt upon.
Siem Reap is home to roughly 90,000 people and is the commercial hub for exploring Angkor Wat, one of the Wonders of the World. This incredible complex of ancient temples is more than just a symbol of Cambodia, it is a defining Southeast Asian travel experience for many visitors.
A city of roughly two million, Phnom Penh is a place that’s truly tough to prepare the visitor for. Today beautifully restored colonial buildings sit next to dilapidated structures falling apart at the seams, the urban poor are passed by NGO-owned sport utility vehicles, lush boulevards invite and multiple worlds collide.
Despite being Cambodia’s second largest city, Battambang retains a certain sleepy charm which makes it more relaxing than Phnom Penh or Siem Reap. The city center is a delightful hodgepodge of old Chinese-style shophouses, colonial buildings, Khmer houses, local markets, trendy restaurants, art galleries, and lots more.
KEP & KAMPOT
Kep province is home to just over 40,000 or about 1% of Cambodia’s population. Durian, mango, coconut and Kampot pepper are the major crops; the latter has been renowned for decades as one of the best peppers in the world. The thing to do here is slow down, take it all in, relish in peace and tranquility and the fact that you’re blazing once again new travel trails.
